
Description: 1. Scope and Definitions
- 1.1. This specification covers the design, fabrication, supply, installation, and quality control of a steel roof structure with a PVC membrane cover (900 g/m²), designed for padel courts located in Vicenza, Italy.
- 1.2. The system includes: primary and secondary steel frames, connections and anchorage systems, membrane covering, drainage elements, wind/snow protection details, lighting suspension points, and maintenance access provisions.
- 1.3. The roof shall be designed for a characteristic snow load of 1.50 kN/m² (150 kg/m²) applied on the horizontal projection.
1.4. Wind effects shall be evaluated according to local Vicenza regulations and NTC 2018/Eurocode requirements.
2. Applicable Standards and Regulations
Italian Standards: NTC 2018 (D.M. 17/01/2018), Circolare 21/01/2019 n.7.
Eurocodes: EN 1990 (Basis of design), EN 1991-1-3 (Snow), EN 1991-1-4 (Wind), EN 1998 (Seismic, if required).
Steel Construction: EN 1090-1/2 (CE Marking & Execution), EN ISO 3834 (Welding quality), EN ISO 1461 (Hot-dip galvanization).
Materials: EN 10025 (Structural steels), EN 14399 / EN 15048 (Bolting).
Membrane: EN 13501-1 (Fire classification), EN ISO 1421 (Tensile), EN ISO 4674/2411 (Tear/peel), EN 15619/15620 (Coated fabrics).
Anchorage: ETA-approved systems in accordance with EAD 330232-00-0601.
All documents must be validated by a licensed Italian engineer (Albo) for submission to the Comune di Vicenza.
3. Design Criteria
Snow load: ≥ 1.50 kN/m².
Wind loads: Per NTC 2018 / Vicenza region wind maps, including internal pressure and edge effects.
Load combinations: ULS/SLS according to EN 1990.
Deflection limits: General L/250, stricter where necessary to prevent ponding.
Temperature range: −20 °C to +60 °C.
Execution class: EXC2 minimum (EN 1090-2).
4.Materials
Steel: S355 (EN 10025), hot-dip galvanized to min. 85 µm (EN ISO 1461).
Bolts: EN 14399 preloaded for slip-resistant joints, EN 15048 for standard joints. Stainless AISI 304/316 where required.
Welding: EN ISO 3834-2; welders certified to EN ISO 9606-1.
Anchors: ETA-approved chemical/mechanical.
Membrane:
PVC, ≥ 900 g/m², PVDF topcoat.
Fire class: EN 13501-1 B-s2,d0.
Tensile: ≥ 4000 N/5 cm, tear ≥ 600 N.
Welded seams ≥ 90% of base fabric strength.
UV, fungus, and weather resistant.


5. Structural System
Frames spaced 3.0–5.0 m (optimized by static analysis).
Secondary purlins to support membrane.
Drainage via ridge/gutter system; no ponding permitted.
Snow retention and sliding control as required.
Maintenance access line and anchor points included.
6. Foundations and Anchors
Anchors designed for combined shear/tension according to ETA guidelines.
Drill, cleaning, curing, and torque per manufacturer instructions.
Verification of reinforcement with non-destructive methods if required.
7. Fabrication and Installation
Manufacturer must hold EN 1090-1 CE certification and Factory Production Control.
Galvanization thickness test certificates required.
Welding subject to VT/MT/PT/UT as specified.
Membrane installation per supplier guidelines, with documented tensioning sequence.
8. Quality Assurance and Documentation
As-built drawings, material certificates (EN 10204 3.1), torque logs, anchor pull-out tests.
Declaration of Performance (DoP) for CE marking.
Fire classification certificates for membrane.
Static calculation report signed by licensed Italian engineer.
9. Warranty and Maintenance
Steel structure: 10 years against corrosion and fabrication defects.
Membrane: 10 years for UV stability, color retention, and seam strength.
Maintenance plan: seasonal inspection of tensioning, drainage, corrosion control.
